Sweet and spicy fruit salad, a truly Malaysian favourite.
There are a variety of rojak in our country.
There’s the classic peanut sauce, the Youtiau (fried dough stick) edition, and this one that uses petis (black fermented shrimp paste).
- 1⁄2 tbsp sesame seeds
- 1 tbsp nuts
- 5 g shrimp paste (dried)
- 1 chilli peppers (dried)
- 1 cup Malaysian sweet soy sauce (kicap lemak manis)
- 3 tbsp shrimp paste (petis udang)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp water
Toast the sesame seeds and nuts in a pan, separately or together is fine. Then toast the dry shrimp paste (belacan).
Blend dried chilis and the toasted shrimp paste together.
Mix in the Malaysian sweet soy sauce, shrimp paste, sugar and water in pan. Bring it to a boil over medium heat and then add in the blended mixture. Continue to cook it until sauce thickens. After that, put it aside to cool.
Cut the vegetables and fruits, we recommend using local fruits and vegetables such as pineapple, guava, cucumber, jicama, blanched beansprouts and blanched water spinach.
Drizzle the sauce on top of the cut fruits and vegetables, then mix them well. Bon Appetite!
